Now, where are we going to travel this summer? Tourism in Spain will once again be local in the coming months , resembling that of those years in which “families moved in their own cars and mostly summer apartments ”. This trend could be explained by the desire to enjoy cheap holidays, but without sacrificing quality. On the other hand, the temporary restrictions on the entry of foreign tourists in other countries mean that many people are waiting for the desired international destination to clarify what the access conditions are.

Nor should we lose sight of the fact that many beach hotels in Spain are launching deep discounts to attract the most undecided. This circumstance, together with the Executive’s announcement, has triggered hotel searches in recent days, as we have seen in Central de Vacations, with national beach destinations being the ones that are generating the greatest interest.

Do you want to know the safest and cheapest destinations for the summer of 2020? If so, keep reading, because we will tell you where you can stay without risks and at the best price. Remember that, from phase 3, you can move freely throughout the national territory! And if you still prefer a trip abroad, we also indicate which are the countries that are about to reopen their borders after overcoming the coronavirus outbreak. The tourism sector is already prepared for the reactivation of the activity, and you?

Betting on apartments and beach hotels in Catalonia

With a record number of more than 19 million foreign tourists last year, Catalonia is one of the most visited spots on the Iberian Peninsula. Reasons for this are not lacking: towns and cities full of history, fishing villages, spectacular mountain landscapes, exquisite Mediterranean cuisine … and its magnificent beaches and coves, spread over nearly 700 km of coastline . Many of them are small in size, so you can enjoy them exclusively with your companions, which will make you forget about having to keep the safety distance (for this, you will have to get up early, but it will be worth it). Do you dare to enjoy these magical corners in the first person?

In the first days after the Government’s announcement, in our agency we are verifying that one of the most sought-after destinations is the Costa Brava , in Girona, where users are especially interested in apartments and hotels in Lloret de Mar, Tossa de Mar , Blanes, Sant Feliu de Guíxols and other towns in the area. In any of them, you can relax on some of the best beaches in Catalonia, surrounded by cliffs and lush pine forests, and explore beautiful medieval towns and protected areas such as the Cap de Creus Natural Park or the Illes Integral Natural Reserve within walking distance. Medes , a paradise for lovers of snorkeling and diving.

We are also receiving many inquiries about hotels on the Barcelona Coast  . Thus, municipalities such as Calella de Mar – one of the main tourist destinations in the Maresme region, highly appreciated for practicing water sports such as kayaking or parasailing , and for its nightlife offer -, Santa Susanna or Premià de Mar are some of those who are taking over the searches in the vicinity of Barcelona city . Already in the province of Tarragona, the peaceful Costa Dorada awaits  , a quiet and perfect destination for family tourism, with summer places such as Cambrils, Salou or Vila-seca. In these last two towns where the PortAventura World theme parks open their doors, ideal for traveling with children.

The beaches of the Valencian Community and Murcia: a sure hit

We continue with our tour of the safe destinations for this summer going down to the province of Castellón, on whose coastline the Costa de Azahar awaits . Among its main claims, we can speak of Vinaròs, a quiet municipality with beaches frequented above all by families in the area, and in which there are some pubs by the sea; from Peñíscola, a photogenic town with a remarkable old town and an impressive papal castle, or from Oropesa del Mar , where they have been working for weeks to adapt their beaches – such as Amplaries, La Concha and Morro de Gos – to the so-called new normality, giving them of all health guarantees.

In the province of Valencia, in addition to its capital, it is possible to refer to destinations such as Gandía. Without forgetting its excellent beaches and its wide range of nightclubs, this city also has a rich monumental heritage, with attractions such as the Ducal Palace of the Borja, the collegiate church of Gandía or the Fallero Museum.

In turn, the Costa Blanca  , in Alicante, also puts in your hands safe vacation destinations for this summer. One of the most sought after is being, how could it be otherwise, Benidorm, which hopes to recover international tourism – especially British – at the beginning of July. Anyway, those looking for something quieter can opt for other coastal municipalities, such as Calpe or Altea.

As for the Region of Murcia , it is worth noting its rapid recovery after the Covid-19 outbreak, but also the fact that it has been the autonomous community where the virus has had a lower incidence (at the time of writing, it occupied the last position in the list of infections per 100,000 inhabitants, with just over 100 people). And what will the traveler find in this warm and welcoming land? The list is huge: beaches like La Manga del Mar Menor, Los Alcázares, Mazarrón or Águilas, monumental cities like Murcia or Cartagena, charming towns like Moratalla … What are you waiting for to pack your bags?

More than 3,000 hours of sunshine a year, 800 km of coastline and an excellent range of hotels , restaurants and all kinds of services. This is the business card of the southernmost region of peninsular Spain, and also one of those that are attracting the most attention among future vacationers.

One of the most sought after destinations is the Costa de Almería , with tourist centers such as the picturesque town of Mojácar, Roquetas de Mar or Cabo de Gata. With a total of 217 km of coastal strip and 13 municipalities, from Pulpí, on the border with Murcia, and to Adra, the Almeria coast is ready to welcome vacationers after the Covid-19, with the maximum measures of security for a risk-free stay.

Going west, we find the Costa Tropical , in Granada, with holiday destinations such as Almuñécar, Gualcho, Lújar, Motril, Salobreña or Vélez de Benaudalla . Continuing west, another of the great classics of beach tourism unfolds: the Costa del Sol  , in Malaga. Among the towns that are receiving the most searches are Benalmádena and Torremolinos . In turn, the Costa de la Luz, which includes the provinces of Cádiz and Huelva , are an ideal option to return to practicing water sports such as kitesurfing after confinement, or combine sun and beach tourism with nature, visiting the nearby Guadalquivir marshes and the Doñana National Park.

Tourism in Spanish islands: Balearic and Canary Islands

We close our review of the typical dishes of the European Union in Eastern Europe, where countless dishes of Slavic influence await the traveler.

In our review of the safe destinations for this summer, trips to the Spanish archipelagos could not be missed. In the Balearic Islands, the Mallorca Hotel Federation – the main holiday destination of this autonomous community – already has everything ready to accommodate the first tourists. Reasons are not lacking, since the more than 3 00 Mallorcan beaches and coves await vacationers with open arms and with all the security measures. The same happens with the towns of the interior, in the Sierra de Tramuntana, declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 2011. Likewise, we must not forget the other three great islands of the Balearic territory: Menorca, Ibiza and FormenteraThe latter being one of the first four places in Spain to reach phase 1, due to the little impact that the Covid-19 outbreak has had on them.

The other three are in the Canary Islands , specifically in La Gomera, El Hierro and La Graciosa. In fact, this autonomous community has been the second where fewer coronavirus infections have been registered in relation to the number of inhabitants during the crisis, only ahead of the Region of Murcia. At the moment, the hotels in Puerto de la Cruz, on the north coast of Tenerife, are being the most consulted by Internet users.

Places to travel safely covid 19, Canary Islands

What international destinations will you be able to travel to this summer?

The other three are in the Canary Islands , specifically in La Gomera, El Hierro and La Graciosa. At the moment, the hotels in Puerto de la Cruz, on the north coast of Tenerife, are being the most consulted by Internet users.

In addition to the Spanish coast, it is very possible that we will soon also be able to start making plans for our summer vacations in international destinations. Due to proximity, price and the low number of people infected by Covid-19 in Portuguese lands, travel offers to Portugal have become a good option for many travelers. Hence, this country hopes to welcome foreign visitors, especially from Spain and especially in hotels in the Algarve . In this sense, the Portuguese Government has announced that it is preparing the country for the arrival of vacationers, and that it is awaiting indications from Brussels.

In the case of trips to Italy , the Government of the transalpine country will open its borders with the rest of the countries of Europe on June 3, without restrictions or quarantines . Although Bel Paese has been one of the hardest hit by the pandemic, the latest data from the Italian health system predict that the end of the outbreak is very close.

Those who are considering spending their holidays in Greece , should know that the Hellenic country, where the Covid-19 has left very few infections, will allow the entry of international tourists from July 1.

Outside the European Union, Iceland is preparing to receive the first visitors after the epidemic before June 15. Although the conditions to enter this Nordic country are still unknown, the idea that gains more force is that newcomers can choose between a rapid test or a two-week quarantine. They would also have to use a tracking app, which is already used by much of the Icelandic population.

Finally, neighboring Andorra contemplates the possibility that tourists visiting the Principality, mainly from Spain and France, undergo the coronavirus test voluntarily and free of charge.
