To get you back hours of restful sleep, here’s a list of 6 kid-friendly movies where toys come alive. All the films we’ll talk about today are friendly in natural and child-appropriate. The kind of feel-good stories that make both children and adults can agree on!

Break out the popcorn, gather the family, and grab your favorite toy. It’s time for a toy-featured night of fun and light-hearted toy movies.

Pinocchio (1940)

Even though this classic animated film was made in 1940, in 2011 time magazine voted Pinocchio as one of the best-animated films of all-time. The story is about Geppetto and Pinocchio. Geppeto is a wooden puppet creator, who made a special little boy-shaped string puppet and named him Pinocchio, until one day when Pinocchio came alive!

Once Pinocchio comes to life, the movie plot continues as he attempts to see the world and faces struggles being seen by society as a real boy someday. Rumor has it, Hollywood is working on a remake of this classic film as we speak, so it’s something to look forward to!

The Indian In The Cupboard (1995)

This one’s a book by Lynn Reed Banks made into a movie. It’s the story of a little boy Omri who discovered his toy Native American doll named Bear had magically come to life. Talk about a special birthday present!

Many film critics consider the movie a classic to be remembered. Its legacy is at least in part due to the Bear’s performance himself.

Toy Story Quad-rilogy (1995, 1999, 2010, 2019)

The Pixar studio produced one of the most famous movie franchise about toys coming alive. The main characters include Woody, a wooden cowboy, and Buzz Lightyear, a plastic space explorer. Since they come from different worlds, they certainly didn’t start on good terms. In the original movie, Woody feels threatened when the Space Ranger comes into play because of his hot-shot modern style.

The success of this movie has taken place in movie theaters as well as supermarkets. Woody has become one of the best-reviewed wooden toys of all time. And likewise, Buzz Lightyear is a favorite plastic figurine adored by all sorts of children.

All in all, Toy Story is one of the most successful and highly acclaimed animated movie series of all time, cherished by children and adults alike.

Jumanji Trilogy (1995, 2017, 2019)

The first Jumanji film came out in 1995, the same year as ‘The Indian In The Cupboard’ and ‘Toy Story’ (original). It tells the story of a young boy named Alan who finds a board game, called Jumanji. Out of strange chance, Alan accidentally becomes trapped in the game for 26 years.

In the beginning scene of the movie, two children Judy and Peter find the game and begin to play. Little did they know, they would unleash the Jumanji board game on the real world and release Alan from the trap. Now, how to go about solving all of the Jumanji riddles? Watch this movie to find out!

Small Soldiers (1998)

‘Little Soldiers’ ranks number 4 in the highest-grossing movies with toy characters. In the film, military corporation Globotech gets into the toy business and uses technology chips to make soldier action figures into real-life soldiers. When the main character Chip Hazard and the rest of the are team squad go on a military strike to stop the peaceful Gorgonites, the plot thickens and war breaks out.

It’s a great movie with memorable toy characters and excellent special effects for that time. It’s just a little unfortunate the movie came out just a few years after the original ‘Toy Story’ and was shadowed by the success of ‘Toy Story’.

The Lego Movie (2014)

When kids play with Legos, they’re making stories come alive. So, it makes so much sense, they’d made a movie starring Lego characters!

In the 2014 movie, Emmett starts like a somewhat normal Lego man, but he comes to build up courage and start believing in himself that he’s the only one who can save the world from the evil Lord Business. Even though the movie takes place all in a child’s imagination, watching the movie sure feels like all the toy characters are alive!

That’s a wrap

With all kinds of amazing toy characters, which one will your kid love? Maybe it’s the adventurous toy protagonists out to help his friends. Maybe it’s the scheming toy villain who had a rough past and is lashing back at the world.

Whatever it is, there’s a featured film where toys come alive that’s just right for your kid’s interests. Since all the movies listed here are child-friendly, you’re bound to have a happy ending!
